Appearance of the shrub:
- The Camellia japonica is an evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. The leaves are oval in shape with a slightly serrated edge.
- The flowers are large, often double, and can range from white, pink, to red, depending on the variety. They usually bloom in late winter and early spring.
- The Camellia thrives best in partial to full shade. It prefers a sheltered spot in the garden or on a patio, out of direct afternoon sun.
- Keep the soil moist but well-drained. Regular watering is necessary, especially during dry spells. Make sure the plant isn't sitting in standing water.
